Favourite Films

I have a large and expanding collection on DVD of films I enjoy watching periodically. My inclination is towards historical, horror and thriller movies.

Great films with a historical background include "The Name of the Rose" and "Gladiator". I enjoy watching films set in antiquity and medieval times, especially when the element of realism and degree of historical accuracy in them is high. Especially appealing to me are the Italien "sword and sandal" films made in the 1950's and 1960's and starring the likes of Richard Harrison and Steve Reeves.

My favourite horror films are "Friday the 13th" (I've seen the entire film series), "Scream" (parts 1 & 2), "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and its great sequel "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer", "Halloween I & II", and the Romero zombie trilogy "Night of the Dead", "Dawn of the Dead" and "Day of the Dead" (the latest Romero zombie film "Land of the Dead" was something of a disappointment), "The Fog" and "Salem's Lot".

My favourite thrillers are "Tremors", "Jurassic Park" and its two sequels, "CopyCat", "From Hell" and "Resurrection". Another favourite of mine, which I cannot place in any of the above categories, is "The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes". A truly brilliant movie!
