Outing to Würzburg

A major city in the Franconian region of the state of Bavaria, Würzburg was already settled as early as 1000 B.C. by the Celts who had erected a fortification on a hill overlooking it. Having a rich and varied history, Würzburg is an excellent place for an outing and I was fortunate to visit it in 2004 with a group of students from the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer. Visit the city's official website here.

The Castle of Würzburg is clearly visible on the hill in the background of the photo on the left. In the two photos on the right our Group is standing on the old bridge.

We walked around the city center of Würzburg. There were a number of old buildings and Churches. The door of the Church in the photo on the left has beautiful carving and is quite modern. Look at the nice classical architecture of the buildings in the photos on the right. The Würzburg Christmas market is located near there.

Photos taken while we were walking around Würzburg. One of the nicest things about German cities and towns is that you often find excellently preserved architectural remnants of the country's past which blend in nicely with the modern functional buildings and structures. Just the way I like it :=)

These photos were taken in one of Würzburg's old alleys. The house has a beautiful medieval facade which makes it a real joy to look at.
